Sun Baby Silver started in late 2021 with a block of wax, a scalpel, and a gin and tonic on a second hand coffee table in Tynemouth,
Coming from a Fine Art background I have always had an instinctive urge to make; I accidentally fell into jewellery making and instantly fell in love with it. Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted by me, making no two pieces the same. Everything is a ‘one off’ and any imperfections are embraced and become a vital part of the work’s charm.
Being completely self-taught means that not all my pieces are created using traditional methods and most are results of countless experiments (and the occasional hammered thumb). It is the process as much as the outcome that really drives me !
All my jewellery is handmade from recycled 925 silver. Gemstones and pearls are ethically sourced or rescued from vintage items and chains are always second hand where possible. Sustainability is at the forefront of my ethos and all my pieces are made to be lived in and worn by ALL !!!
Please enjoy a virtual rummage and I hope you find something to treasure forever,
Sun Baby Love,
George x
I spent my childhood and teenage years living in Muscat, Oman and underneath the Arabian sunshine is where I call home. It is this that influenced the name, Sun Baby Silver…
The Muttrah Souq in the heart of Muscat old town is probably one of my first ever jewellery influences. The souq itself is a flood to the senses; a maze of shops selling fabrics, spices, antiques, household goods, jewels, quite possibly the best freshly squeezed juices you will ever have and more. As a teenager, I remember sifting through vats of battered old silver and picking out and buying my first ever ring (which I still adore and wear often). Every time I'd visit the souq the urge to buy and treasure something was almost uncontrollable and I've since realised that it was just as much about the experience of the visit as well as the purchase.
Collecting silver rings has since become a mild obsession of mine and annoyingly I seem to have run out of fingers. Even so, I get a strange sense of guilt when swapping out more 'permanent' fixtures for others in my jewellery box - it is THIS feeling that I want people to one day feel about their Sun Baby Silver pieces.
